The faith community in Memphis and beyond is mourning the loss of Dr. Steve Gaines, Pastor Emeritus of Bellevue Baptist Church, who passed away after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.
Dr. Gaines was widely known for his leadership, compassion, and unwavering commitment to ministry. During his time at Bellevue Baptist Church, he served as a guiding spiritual voice, preaching, teaching, and mentoring countless individuals. His influence extended beyond his congregation, impacting the broader Southern Baptist Convention and faith communities across the country.
Throughout his life, he was recognized not only as a pastor but also as a mentor and encourager. He dedicated himself to helping others grow in their faith, offering guidance to fellow pastors and support to church members with a servant’s heart.
In a message shared by his church family, they expressed comfort in their belief that he is now “fully healed in the presence of the Lord,” reflecting the deep faith that defined his life and ministry.
Family, friends, and members of the community are set to gather on Sunday, March 22, for visitation from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 6:00 p.m. at Bellevue Baptist Church’s Worship Center. The service will honor his life, legacy, and the many lives he touched.
Though his passing leaves a deep void, Dr. Steve Gaines’ legacy endures through the faith he inspired, the people he mentored, and the lasting impact of his ministry.
